Swami Vivekananda, the 19th Century Indian Hindu Monk is considered as one of the most influential people of modern India and Hinduism. Rabindranath Tagore suggests the study of Vivekananda's work to learn about India. Indian Independence activist Subhash Chandra Bose regarded Vivekananda as his spiritual teacher. Mahatma Gandhi said that after reading the work of Vivekananda, his love for his Nation became a thousandfold. In 2012, a three day world conference was organised by the Institute of World religions to commemorate the 150th birth anniversary of Swami, to mark the day he delivered his historic lectures in 1893. In 2013 Indian Railway started Vivek Express.
What he wanted from the youth was 'muscles of thought and nerves of Steel.' Swami Vivekananda was only the medium; he is himself the message as well for the youth of India. His teachings will always stay relevant.
Swami, we can say without any doubt the greatest source of achievement, pride and inspiration. He thought his unconditional love reinforced the importance of giving back and taught us how to be a better person.
The celebration would be similar as it was earlier. But due to the coronavirus outbreak, schools and colleges might not conduct functions, seminars, etc. because of the safety measures. We also conducted the quiz competition with all the safety measures. Mrs Nishita Prem, student of the physical science department gave an introduction to the topic. She gave a brief history of Swami Vivekananda. She took the role of the role of the quiz master and 25 questions were asked in the competition. The Quest finally came to an end with Shilpa from department of natural science getting first prize and Gouri Krishna from the department of English got second prize. The competition concluded with a vote of thanks from Miss Akshaya, department of physical science. Active participation of students from various departments made the event a ground success.
SWAMI VIVEKANANDA : BIOGRAPHY
Swami Vivekananda was a great social reformer and a very inspiring personality of India. Vivekananda was called by the name Narendranath Datta. He was born in Kolkata on 12th January 1863, to Vishwanath Datta and Bhuvaneshwari Devi. His father was a successful attorney. He used to practice meditation even from his boyhood and was associated with Brahma movement for some time.At the threshold review, Narendra had to pass through a process of spiritual crisis. When he was exiled by doubts about the existence of God in 1881 he wanted to meet Sri Ramakrishna who was staying at the Kali temple, Dakshineswar. Narendra became a frequent visitor to Dakshineswar and under the guidance of Sri Ramakrishna, he made Rapid studies on the spiritual path. After a few years two events took place, which caused Narendra considerable distress - sudden death of his father in 1884 and Sri Ramakrishna in 1886. In the middle of 1890 Vivekananda left Baranagar Math and embarked on a long journey to explore and discover India. He went on a pilgrimage all over the country, studying the conditions of the people. Wherever he went, his magnetic personality created a great impression.
He decided to attend the world parliament of religion in order to spread his message in the West, which was scheduled to be held in Chicago in 1893. On the eve of his departure he adopted the name of Swami Vivekananda. His speech at the world parliament of religion held inSeptember 1893 made him famous as a writer by divine rights, and as a messenger of Indian wisdom to The Western world. For three years he spread the Vedanta philosophy and religion in America and England and then returned to India. He founded the Ramakrishna Math and mission on 1st May 1897. In 1898 he established Belur Math.
In June 1899 he left India for a second visit to the west. He returned to Belur Math in December 1900.The rest of his life was spent in India, inspiring and guiding people. He has dedicated his life to guiding others for a pure and true spiritual path. His health destroyed and Swami Vivekananda breathed his last on 4th July 1902 at the Belur Math leaving behind the Immortal Legacy not just in the heart of his contemporaries but for all coming generations
