Phase 2 Teaching Practice: Week 4 Summary

We are under stress! Teacher asked us to finish portions upto onam exams. We were asked not to follow lesson plan, and to take extra hours and special classes if required. Are we supposed to do it?  I have expressed my concerns to our consent teachers in pirappancode and also in department. As pirappancode school is going to be our exam centre, including our principal asked us to deal tactfully. Achievement test was done in 8D, and special remedial classes were conducted to Ajinmon n rithik. Topper is Anugraha with 23/24. Lowest mark is 8.5, as she was absent in last 3 classes.

Think Pair Share

When Think Pair Share Strategy combined with ICT it worked so well. Ionic compounds and types of covalent bonds were discussed using these techniques.  Phase 1:THINK -Video was provided to aid thinking on the concept   Phase 2: PAIR- Students were paired and allotted time discuss their findings   Phase 3: SHARE - Student groups were asked to write a note on the concept provided. Daily milk Bubbly was offered to winning team.  Lack of continuity in presentation of ideas were the problem noticed in students' write up. Hence a general format in the form of rubric was given for second session  Rubrics used for evaluating performance. In addition to this involvement of both members of the pair was assured. Problems faced: Initially planned to combine ionic and covalent bonding in a single hour (total 8minutes) , but due to network issues the attempt failed and splitted into two sessions. Merits: More attention from students, mo

Phase 2 Teaching Practice: Week 3 Summary

It was the week of reflections!  The important event of this week was Liby teacher's visit🤭. Thankfully it was good and well with some important points to reflect on! As kids of 8D were ready to open up with teacher, some important suggestions they shared.   1. My speed shall be controlled 2. Wearing mask reduces clarity of speech 3. Explanations shall be provided in Malayalam as well since they feel difficult to follow English.  I got some similar feedback from 9D too in the first hour of Friday. It was our first encounter after their mischievous attitude in the last classes, which caused much chaos in the whole school! It invited unnecessary attention to us. Now onwards we would be observed by the concerned trs in every hour we teach! The main extracurricular activities of this week included science club inauguration and moon day celebration.

Moon Day Celebration n Science Club Inauguration

" How to set up a science club in a school? Write down the different stages of it formation?"  When I wrote it's answers for S2 University examination I never thought I would be lucky enough to participate in the process very soon.It was a great start!   Have a look!

Phase 2 Teaching Practice: Week 2 Summary

Post covid normal classrooms are quite noisy compared to the older ones. In last phase numbers of children were quite handy in each class, hence issues related to discipline were rare. But now behavioural management theory often fails on its implications to classroom.  But happiness of this term is extracurricular activities. The school is fully on from morning assembly to club activities to ncc to active playful grounds. It's impossible to not notice their vibrant energy and happiness after shutting themselves for almost two years.

World population Day 11th July

Back to School... Back to Action!

The  first day of second phase of teaching practice. Due to division fall and time table resetting we couldn't have teaching hours. But being a teacher is not just teaching na? We decided to help with seating arrangement for students in the auditorium for Vidyarangam club activities and English test paper . Divya and I could discuss our lesson plans and our brainstorming brought some good ideas as well. One of them was to name groups by scientists keeping gender visibility in the equation. We also thought about bringing theatre elements to teach ionic bonding, let's see how it works!
