Teacher's Day Celebration

Due to the present pandemic scenario, the programme was conducted online. It was conducted on September 6, 2021 in accordance with the National Teacher Day (September 5). All the students actively participated in the effective organising and success of the programme.

The program of English Department was started with a talk on the life story of Babar Ali, who is known as the youngest headmaster in the world. It was inspirational to the young pupil teachers. It was followed by a speech that commemorated the former president Dr S Radhakrishnan and about the importance of teachers’ day. One of the students of English Department had recorded a video of a dance performance ‘Guruvandanam’ and it was played afterwards. Then there was a small video presentation, which was a comprehensive study and analysis of juvenile crimes in our nation. It asserted the role of a teacher in forming a good generation of citizens. The students of English Association had prepared greeting cards for the teachers and they were displayed in the meeting.

The video presentation by Social Science Department was started with a prayer and it was followed by a comparative study about the modern educational system and the traditional educational systems like gurukula system. Then they introduced us some of the famous teachers who have contributed towards the building of a better nation. It included personalities like Dr S Radhakrishnan, Swami Vivekananda and Dr A. P. J. Abdul Kalam. The eleven minute long video presentation of Social Science department was concluded by mentioning the importance and role of teachers in this pandemic period.

After the Social Science department’s video presentation, there was an interactive session led by the Mathematics Department. The presenter gave some real life situations which can probably occur in the life of a teacher. Then the pupil teachers were asked how they would respond in those situations. The questions asked are attached below:

  • As part of the school curriculum the students were asked to write a script of a story. After all the students submitted the work you went through all the scripts and found out that one of the students have written an amazing and creative script. As a teacher, how would you motivate the student in realising his talent?

  • Suppose that one of your students’ geometry box is missing. He came to you and explains the situation and blames one of his friends. How will you handle the situation?

  • While experimenting in the science laboratory accidentally acid fell into one of your students' hand. How will you handle the situation?

  • None of the students except three completed a work which was assigned by you. As a responsible teacher, how will you react to this situation?

  • While you were teaching, some of the students are disturbing your class. How will you react to the situation?

Teacher trainees as well as the teachers actively participated in this session and shared their opinions.

The video presentation of Commerce Department gave reverence to poets, who were also teachers. It was a medley of poems by such poets. The poems of Kumaran Asan, Sugathakumari, G. Sankarakurup, O.N.V Kurup, Ullur and Subrahmani Bharathiyar were recited in this session. The presentation ended with a warm wish of the Teachers’ Day the students of the Commerce Department.

It was followed by the video presentation by the Physical Science Department which started with a poem dedicated to the teachers of our college. There was a small narration of the origin and importance of Teachers’ Day along with which, a comprehensive biography of Dr S Radhakrishnan was included. After that, a short story was narrated which elucidated the role of a teacher in moulding the future of a student. The presentation was concluded with displaying some sayings of some famous personalities about teachers.

The video presentation by Natural Science Department also included the biography of Dr S Radhakrishnan. It also gave importance to analysing the changing role of teachers in this modern situation. There was a message which stressed the changes in teaching and learning in the pandemic situation. The video presentation helped the teacher trainees to enhance their vision about their future.
